A/N: This is set in the buffyverse I began with here http://kerkevik.livejournal.com/19023.htmland, for the purposes of this drabble, until recently Faith and Buffy have been lovers; one of several that Buffy has pursued amidst the loneliness of her command. This then is set some time before that first story in the 'verse.
It's the philosophers, it's the scholars," he continued, "they're the people who pass the torch, who keep the light burning by which we live.
The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf,
Faith looked shocked as Buffy handed her Kendra's strangely-shaped, but very sharp stake made of caribbean rosewood.
"Should be yours, by rights," she told Faith as a tear escaped her control.
She tried to speak, but Buffy silenced her with a very firm kiss.
"Call it a wedding present," she whispered, kissing Faith on the cheek.
Faith tried to compose herself, but still could not find the words she wanted.
"Miss you, wouldn't want to be you," Faith looked startled, and not just by Buffy's smile.
Surrendering, Faith kissed her former lover hard, then very calmly stepped out the door.
May the Goddess watch over us all,
