New resolution: every day, post about something that makes me happy or smile or laugh or something else positive, even if it's just "this is a soothing thing that I enjoy very much".
Today, I am posting about my workplace. I LOVE my workplace. I have said this many times before, and I think I tweet it every other week, at least.
I'm not crazy about being a receptionist, but I really enjoy doing it for the museum. I LOVE talking to people about Jacksonville and telling them about different places to see if they're visiting (which I've done for people mentioning Florida before). I LOVE talking about the museum itself and the artwork and seeing the reactions. I have a lot of downtime, because the museum isn't really busy (except for lunch at the cafe, which isn't something I'm involved with), but even when it is busy, I really love working there, unlike at my last three jobs, when I was either bored to tears when it was slow or too overwhelmed when it wasn't.
I also really like where I work. The blocks from the river north to Duval St and between ... ugh, I'm blanking on it, but it's the street that makes the western boundary of Hemming Plaza and then Main street, which is the eastern boundary of the Library block, has a lot of beautiful old architecture and is just lovely. There's Chamblins and City Hall and the JPL and art galleries and parks and little restaurants all in there, and it's just a nice place, though it'll be better if they ever get some of the buildings to be not vacant anymore.
The only negative part about my job is that I don't earn enough to make a living (I'm only part-time, after all), and because it's here in Jacksonville, I'd have to leave it in order to move to Milwaukee to go to school on campus. Also, a negative is that receptionisting is exhausting, and I'm sleeping about as soon as I get home. I find any job to be really tiring, though, and school was, too, because of dealing with so many people and having to always be On, you know? It takes a lot of spoons.
So, that is day #1.
I'm going to take a photo of my dress in a second so that I can show how much clay-mud got on it, before I take it to the cleaners. Hopefully they can get it clean, because I really love that dress. (Like my shoes, I bought it for less than $20, but it fits really well and looks awesome and is one of my favorite pieces of clothing.)
