I've been so terribly bored...I know I have work I should be doing, but I can't bring myself to actually do it. So I just thought I'd post some of the new songs and artists I've been listening to of late.
Oh, Mika. I've loved him from the first day I heard 'Grace Kelly', and I can't get enough of him. His music, his attitude, his wardrobe - his whole package is just so charming and appealing. I love the newest single 'We are Golden'; the video reminds me of how I used to dance in my bedroom when I had the cassette player going (and I love the sparkly green sneakers he wears - I wonder where he got them?). I couldn't post the official video, it wasn't embedding right, but you can view it on Mika's website:

There's new South African band I just recently discovered, Blk Jks. They have a really cool sound that I've never heard before, like a sort of Afro-modern-rock that's really appealing. This is one of their songs, and my favorite, Lakeside.

Next is a band I found out about via my favorite music magazine, Spin. The Duke Spirit is a really, bluesy-pop-rock band, and this track, 'The Step and the Walk' has a cool, haunting quality to it. And a really catchy bridge.

I've been listening to the acid-pop-rock band MGMT for quite some time now (so it;s not really new to me) and I love them, but the fact that I can't get their song 'Kids' out of my head is the reason I'm putting it here.

Elbow is a completely amazing band from the UK that too few Americans know about. They've been together for a little over 10 years, ut I only recently heard them for the first time when their fourth album (from which the song below is from) won the 2008 Mercury Prize(previous winners include Franz Ferdinand, the Arctic Monkeys, and Pulp). This one is called 'Grounds for Divorce.'
