Sometimes I wonder what the fuck I was thinking about, building my own game
This is driving me insane.
Ironically, what's giving me the most trouble is the classes and spells - which I'd need to come up with for D20, anyway. erg.
I'm having pretty severe attention span issues, as well; I think I've touched on the subject here, but to sum up I tend to

Three Point Five only gets broken-complicated when you start dealing with the clusterpile that is the combat maneuvers, grid mechanics, and status effects - oh, and the bonus-stacking gets a little bit crazy after a while because basically it meant as soon as your group hit third level you were recalculating applicable bonuses multiple times per round on twelve axes.
Axes as in... axis, plural.
Rules lawyers will lawyer if they are at the table: full stop. The rules are, in such cases, fully incidental to the lawyering process.
The only thing that works is making the people not want to lawyer, and the best way to do that is to make the game over sixty percent dialogue. (only partly kidding.)
Alessia is - well, she's KIND OF a rules lawyer. I've heard of GMs who switch systems every campaign so as to keep anyone from knowing what's going on - maybe that's what I should do. Either that, or just respond to any questions with "my system, i'll send you a copy of the rule in question" and never follow through. :3
(kidding. seriously.)
Loopholes, though - those are destined to happen when a company releases one additional source/rulebook every month for five years. I mean, look at the Arms & Equipment guide - second-rate art, the better of which is cribbed from the PHB; equipment tables that include such gems as coral armor, and writing that looks like it came from a freshman at Phil's Creative Writing & Horse Dentistry University.
And it's an official book!
Not to mention Unearthed Arcana 3.5... Christ, what a fucking nightmare. I maintain that 3.5 is not innately broken or overpowered; but there are maybe two optional rulesets in the entire UA35 grimoire that doesn't double the power of the character in question or better.
Maybe what I'm saying is that there's no system so robust that future expansions can't ruin everything.
