“Don’t you want to step inside? Come now, just until the rain stops. I promise to not turn you in for loitering.”
The woman in the shop waves the cloaked figure inside, chime jingling as he flicks his hood off. As the rain wears on, they make conversation inside her island souvenir shop, the woman talkative and bubbly, and the other polite but succinct. He eyes the key-chains hanging from a display, little palm trees and fish, seashells and turtles, some star-shaped fruit.
“You know,” she says, “you remind me of someone I knew once. It’s the eyes, I think.”
