First Bike Rally

Totally just finished my first bike rally doing the WildRide at the Richardson Wild Flower Festival. It was a lot of fun. I just did the 16 mile run since it was my first bike rally and the only other options were 40 and 65 miles. My vintage bike (like legit form the 70s) got lots of compliments, in truth no one can resist the light blue allure of the Schwinn!

I finished in just over an hour, starting around 8:07am and finishing about 9:23am.
The route wasn't bad, just a few hills. It was REALLY nice having the cops stop traffic for us and an AMAZING site to see 2000+ racers start off together. I got to learn some new cyclist etiquette. Some cyclists coming up beside me would say "left!". It took me a while to realize that was them letting me know they were behind me on my left. So courteous!

I realized about half way to the race that i didn't have my inhaler so I decided to see how I would do without it. I actually did pretty well, the hills were difficult and once i lost my inertia it was hard to get it back. That may also be due to the fact that my bike is old and at least 30lbs. Either way, my goal was to not stop pedaling. i tried to stay above 10mph at all times but going up hills ... i didn't always reach that goal. ^^; But it was nice to finish and experience a new culture and try something new!!

I think I'll be doing this again. ^_^
