Sure, a large part of it is that someone left the gun around, a semi, no less. It's an accident that didn't have to happen, and I expect that pro-arms people will just keep arguing along the lines of individual responsibility.
But really, it all boils down to this: to most people, this accident will be just another unfortunate statistic. However, who's going to suffer for it? Maybe a few politicians will feel guilty, the parents certainly will. But the girl herself will find out about it one day, and how do you think she will feel?
