Willow closed her eyes, willing the calmness into her chaotic thoughts. Instead of the peaceful haven that she was supposed to be picturing for her meditation, Willow saw Tara' s blood stained shirt, the look of surprise seconds before her knees crumpled and her world fell apart. Her eyes popped open with a gasp, the flowers around her withering as if the life were sucked out of them.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She had no idea if she were speaking to the coven or to Tara's ghost. Perhaps both. Willow felt tears welling up behind her eyes. "I can't do this. I'm sorry. Maybe it would be better if you stripped me of the magic."
"No." Beatrice, the head of the coven, shook her head smiling kindly. "It would be easier for you but not better. You need to learn control of the dark powers. You wouldn't learn anything if we'd just stripped them. You have a gift. Rupert told us of the spell you cast as a child restoring the soul of a vampire. When one is given such a gift, even if one abused it, it would be wrong of us to deprive the world of that power. All we can do is guide you in how to use it as it should be used rather than having it use you." She walked over to Willow, laying a hand gently on the crown of her head. "You will do so much good with this power. She would be proud of you."
The tears flowed freely now as she thought of Tara. She would have hated what Willow had become. A monster. A killer. The pain was too raw to regret the decision that she'd made with Warren. She liked the eye for an eye for killing Tara. Maybe someday that would change. Today wasn't that day though. Willow did regret turning on her friends, hurting Giles and almost killing Buffy.
She felt a cool breeze on her cheeks drying her tears. If Willow were fanciful, she would have thought it was Tara giving her strength to try again. With a sigh, Willow nodded. "Okay. Let's try this again."
