"Scotland will be hit by an Artic blast with temperatures falling to -17 degrees in one of the bitterest winters for 100 years, forcasters warned last night.
The New Year will see freezing weather sweep the UK, causing havoc.
Tonight and tomorrow will remail mild, but snow and freezing winds will sweet in this week. And forcasters say an even worse sustained spell will hit later in January.
Independant forcaster Piers Corby warned: "It will be one of the six coldest Janyarys for 100 years and include at least one exceptionally cold spell similar to that experienced in January 1987. Temperatures in many parts will stay below freezing all day and the lowest night temperatures on parts of Scotland, the Midlands, and north Englad could get to -17C or even colder.
And more snow and cold is set to last until the end of February."
