Wednesday comics round-up

Adventure Comics #4 - I mostly liked this one because I think Superboy-Prime is an interesting character (certainly much more so than Superman, about whom I couldn't care less), but it suffered from being way too meta. Wait, that doesn't quite get across how meta it was. Let me try again. I think it suffered from being TOO META.

Outsiders #24 - This comic impressed me so much that I can't even be bothered to remember what happened in it. Evidently, everyone else felt the same way, since, even though it came with one of the Green Lantern power rings (Violet, if you wanted to know) and even though every single other issue that's come with one of those rings has sold out before we could even put them on the shelves, we still have some left. That's how much no one cares about this comic.

Mighty Avengers #31 - Anything was better than last month's Scientist Supreme bullshit. While I approve of Hank Pym finally manning up (and having him hear the Unspoken's story and realize how pathetically similar it was to his own whining was really nice) I'm not sure he needed to be MANned up, if you know what I mean. Well, you probably haven't read this issue, so I'll tell you that he does the stupid Marine "Hoo-ha!" thing, and that's just not right. On the other hand, it got me to like Amadeus Cho a little more, so it's not all stupidly macho. Oh! And Luna was unexpectedly awesome in the face of Quicksilver's douchebaggery!

Nomad: Girl Without a World #3 - I like Nomad; she's a teenage girl who doesn't have obnoxiously large tits and act like a) daddy's little girl, or b) "grr, I'm such a rebel. and by rebel I mean drug-addicted goth" which seem to be the two major teenage girl stereotypes in comics (or out of comics). That said, this issue didn't impress me all that much (too much exposition, not enough anything else), partially because I'm just marking time for the next issue where the Young Avengers finally show up, and partially because of the most predictable cliff-hanger/reveal ever.

Doctor Horrible One-Shot - It's cute, it tells Doctor Horrible's backstory (which is odd, since I feel that the entirety of the Sing Along Blog in the first place was someone's Aberrant character's backstory). If you like the idea of those two things, you'll probably like it. Issue-wise, it was kind of like a joke for which the punch line was the movie, which leaves it feeling incomplete of itself, but makes it fit nicely into the storyline.

If it seems like I'm being completely negative towards the comics today, it's because I'm feeling completely negative towards other things and have to get it out somewhere. Rest assured that if I didn't like comics, I wouldn't keep reading them and that there are positive things to say about all of these, so you should go out and read things. Tell me what you think of recent comics, these or totally other ones.
