Weekly round-up?

Apr 17, 2009 16:16

So indehed had a good idea which I may attempt to steal: a weekly update. If you've been following my journal for the last 4 months, you may have noticed that I haven't updated. Not once. It's not because nothing happened in those months, but because...um...actually, I have no idea. I just didn't update. So...hi, LJ friends. Long time, no see. Except for those of you I see on a regular basis in the magical land of Not The Internet.

Anyway, things that happened this week:
~I watched claymation gay porn in my Trojan War class and now I have to write a paper about it. Oh, Kosta.
~I gave a presentation on Roman religion in High Civilizations of Antiquity, otherwise known as the Most Boring Class on God's Green Earth. Between Sarah, Mycenaean-Empire-girl-whose-name-I-really-should-know-by-now, and me, we managed to bring up the class' enthusiasm levels to mild interest due to our utter geekiness.
~To make up for having to work with the ethnology collection and make boxes and other boring stuff, I got to take pictures of artifacts with the Logan's photography setup. It's better than the one in dad's studio, but not by a whole lot, and it was good getting behind a camera again. I'm planning on taking out my own Rebel once the plants come out a little more on campus so I can balance out my collection of "How the hell do people live up here?!" winter photos.
~The Salvation Army was having a Customer Appreciation Day and I managed to get four tiny glass bottles which are probably fakes, but are designed like snake oil medicines and a black leather duster with an interesting grey collar for $20.
~Last week (and change), I got an awesome new computer (TabletPC!) thanks to the efforts of Monk, Magneto, dad, and Craigslist. This week, I actually started doing artsy things on it. More to come on this once I actually finish something that's not a simple starscape that requires no real talent to do. Also once I get the pen working correctly. If anyone have any experience with tablets and has any advice besides downloading the drivers from the official site, please share.
~Symposium Day! No class!
~The weather's really nice right now. I hope it stays that way. If it does, I can finally stop wearing two pairs of pants everywhere.
~I finally got to show "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" in Lounge. It's been forever since I've seen that movie. It's so damned good. In a totally unrelated showing, the new Doctor Who episode was quite good (especially because of UNIT and a minor character who probably won't show up again but was amazing while he lasted) and I'm once again trying to get through all of Life on Mars at BBC Sundays. We'll see how far we get this time.
~I have a new favourite song, mostly because of my working on the Roman religion presentation I mentioned earlier.
~I just downloaded the beta version of Trillian Astra, which is pretty neat so far, but has a few things that irritate me. I may post suggestions on the forum.

Things that didn't actually happen this week:
~In Adventure!, the rest of the party has finally discovered that my character is Jewish. I wonder if they've connected my utter horror with going undercover in the SS with that yet? Next stop, rescuing my father from Auschwitz!
~In Babylon 5, I hate Babylon 5. And Byron. But Lyta's dead! Oh thank god. I wonder what this will mean for canon?
~In Exalted, two of my Solars have learned Sidereal Martial Arts. I had nothing to do with this. On the other hand, I've now mastered Prismatic Arrangement of Creation and am picking up Charcoal March of Spiders. I have so many effects up on my character that I've had to make a little booklet of sticky notes on the back of my sheet (which was already full of notes on my Solars and others).

Things that happened more than a week ago:
~As previously mentioned, new computer! My poor old Holocron isn't quite dead, and dad informs me that reinstalling Windows will probably help a great deal, but it was taking 12 minutes to start up from hibernation, much less to open programmes, so I don't feel at all guilty about getting this new one before graduation.
~Fairytale Ball went off with some drama I won't go into here, but I went as Professor Abraham van Helsing and had some great in character conversations with Robbie, who went as the Big Bad Wolf in some variation or another.
~Dairyland: Team Jailbait was amazing. Take 3 Young Avengers, 2 Runaways, and 1 old New Warrior, none of whom are above about 21 and most of whom are 16 or below, and set them loose in a Marvel Universe where the Civil War went in a much more logical and in-character way than it did in canon, and you get one hell of a good game. Wiccan is a fun character to play (my god, he's so useful!) and I really enjoyed interacting with Carly's Hawkingbirdeye and, of course, Zim's Hulkling. Hopefully there will be a quotelist coming (but not from me).
