The Sound of Drums

Three fourths "OMG hurray!", One fourth "WTF, Rusty?"

-First off, John Simm wins at life. Yes, he's still playing crazy, but it's a whole 'nother can f crazy and he looks like he's having fun doing it.
-Moving on from there we get Silly Gallifreyan Robes! The Seal of Rassilon! Jellybabies!! Time War backstory! First contact protocol designed around the Yeti incident! Time Lord training! A version of Gallifrey that isn't another rock quarry like it was in Old School! Hypnotism! U.N.I.T.! Easily Overlooked Presence keys? The slashiest conversation ever recorded! [addendum: Rusty can't do anything sibling-related after that, right?]
-The Valiant...Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. That's all I've got to say about that.
-Oh poor Jack. You and Martha bonded some more over being ignored. Also poor Torchwood. Just because you're a bunch of incompetent teenagers doesn't mean you should be forced to climb mountains for the Master's amuseme-...wait, yes it does. Speaking of Torchwood, Jack has been further relegated to the position of Ianto by making the tea for the team. Last week it was holding the Doctor's jacket. What will next week bring?
-What's up with Lucy, exactly? Is she just dumb and selfish?
-So, on to things I'm puzzled about. From the preview for next week, it seems that they're going to try to explain the drums thing as having been part of the Master's crazy since his childhood. However, the Master in Old School wasn't psychotic and hyperactive. He was megalomaniacal and dignified (usually). I'd been assuming that his crazy in the last episode was due to regeneration and the recent experience of being a lowly ape. Hopefully that gets worked out.
-I'm also going to assume that the "laser screwdriver" (but...Tissue Decompression Eliminator! Why no TCE?) added four or five hundred years, rather than one hundred. Time Lords last longer than that.
-Teletubbies?

I found myself tapping that rhythm a while after the episode. Curse then for using the background rhythm from the theme song!

I have voted for Saxon. Have you?
