On the up side, I did finish my paper before work today and email it (it was a very close call). I'm slightly worried because technically it was due yesterday, but she said in our last class that we could email it by Monday. So I covered my ass by claiming in my email that I'd tried to send it several times and had trouble, so could she please email me when she gets it so that I know? Which is dual win since for most of the semester she wasn't receiving any student emails, and she says it's fixed, but if her email acts up and she doesn't get it I'll know because she doesn't reply. Then I'll just drop by a hard copy on Monday with a note attached.
Other good news: the camera my mom got me arrived today, and it is full of awesome. Danny approves of it. It's a Nikon Coolpix L16. I'll be taking pictures of everything starting tomorrow after work. At some point I'm sure I'll take pictures of work stuff too, but right now work is chaos and I don't want to risk losing/breaking it. Or even scratching it.
Sooo. Not exactly good news, per se, but something random that heightened my mood even more: I was looking at the folders on my mac harddrive and I noticed that it's set up differently from Windows in a way I hadn't noticed until now. Because I just copied my documents over from Windows, I had them all in the Mac documents folder -- My Pictures, My Music, etc. But when I installed the Nikon program I realized it went to a folder outside Documents for pictures. I looked and saw that the set up is actually really handy -- under my name, there's a Documents folder, Pictures, Sites, Music, Movies, etc. So I'm going to reorganize my stuff to fit into the mac structure.
Now for the bad news. I got to work today and George was still there. Breshawn got sick, really sick, once she got to work and had to go home, so George worked a double. (At Starbucks, that's 5am to 9:30pm, that's right, 16 and a half hours... and he didn't even get his meal, I think.) Ashlee didn't come, which I fully expected since they scheduled her during her baby shower and for an eight and a half hour shift when her doctor says she can only work five hours... but originally Amy was scheduled to work the same shift, too, only she was moved to 8:00 to 4:00 and she left the moment I got there. So it was just her and George from 1:30 or so, and just me and George from 4pm on. We couldn't get much cleaning done with just the two of us, and it was a huge mess because they'd been short-handed.
Plus I have to be back there to open at 6am tomorrow morning and deal with the mess we were forced to leave. I mean, I would have been for staying a little late to clean more except that I have to open tomorrow, and George certainly didn't want to after having been there 16+ hours.
Still, despite all that George was way less grumpy than I would have expected. He warned me that if he was in a bad mood it was because of how long he had to work, but then he just wasn't that bad. He still smiled at the customers, and yes he was tired and his back hurt, but he kept moving and he didn't expect me to do any more than he did. Which just goes to reinforce what I've thought all along: he may be a poor manager in a lot of ways, but he's a good guy.
Also, Hogsmeade's running at
hogwarts_elite now. I even made time to enter a couple of the contests already. There's no way I'll be able to do any of the more time-consuming ones, but I might get to a couple shorter ones tomorrow too.
And starting next Monday my work availability will be any time but Wednesdays, Sundays, and after 4pm on Saturdays. I made sure George had seen it, and he said yes and he'll be making the schedule for that week on Monday. Technically I have about the same number or more available hours as before, but it's awesome for me since it means I won't work Danny's days off or close Saturdays, and it'll just be work, no school. For the summer, at least...
And I really have to work on transferring to College Park. I guess it's not so pressing for this summer, but during next semester it'll be much more convenient working at the College Park Starbucks.
