Prompt: “change of section”
A/N: Written for the 100 word challenge at museteasers

When I think about this day,
all the moments leading up to now
linked together in a neat row
like mama’s pearl necklace I used to play with as a child,
I imagine the days nestled in an immovable line stretching back into yesteryear.

But some days have turned dark,
broken beads in the strand.
I want to change those sections, pluck them from memory.
Start afresh.
I tried it once, and was left with a lapful of pearls and
tangled twine for my effort.
The punishment was worth every tear: better to have nothing
Than a prize, so ruined.
