A/N: This was written for Purestofprose drabble contest #4.

She held it in the crook of her neck, a piece of cloth placed against the wood for protection. Protection for it, not her. The oils from her chin would ruin the wood over time, and it was too precious to damage. The hours she had spent with it lodged there were enough to stain. Her fingers were in place, curved and ready to begin their flight over strings that would resonate with life. All that was missing was the other half; the bow. When horsehair met steel, music spilled forth from the old instrument, and her heart was free.
