Torchwood ramble Doctor Who ramble ramble ramble ramble; oh hey! RL!

RE: Torchwood.  I watched up to episode 6 now, and I must say that 5 & 6 are SIGNIFICANTLY better than 1-4.  I'm still not sure that I like it; there's a bit too much ~*~angst~*~ and ~*~sexual drama~*~ in it right now, when I'd prefer wholesome character development and interesting adventures, but we'll see.  I'm not totally adverse to watching ( Read more... )

I want really badly to like Martha, but I just can't. But this is mainly because she was the first companion after Rose and therefore had so much to live up to in my book. And she just didn't do it for me. I'm sure a large part of it was due to the fact that I was still all "ROOOOSE!" when I first watched Martha's season, but I don't know ... the connection (both with the Doctor and this might sound cheesy, but with me) wasn't there.

But yes, she does have some really kick-ass moments and when she isn't angsting over the Doctor (I looove that part in Journey's End where she says to Rose "oh my god, he found you?"), she is so much better as a character. Although like you said, I can't exactly fault her for being in love with the Doctor, haha.

And oh TORCHWOOD. Stick around until season two - it gets so good. I think the creators would like to pretend that season one was nothing but a bad, bad dream.

Haha, I love them too. Except I have a tendency to be rambly and extremely incoherent (more so than usual) and I never catch my mistakes. So if you actually understand me, you should congratulate yourself or something, haha.

I totally agree. When I say it cemented me liking her... it was more of a "I don't want to say that it more or less just brought me to neutral" if that makes sense. SHe's just totally lacking something that Rose and even Donna had. She didn't really do anything but balance the Doctor, whereas Donna and obviously Rose add and improved his life. And it's true too, Rose was easier to connect with for our generation I think, because she's closer to our living standard right now: working part time or full time job, maybe going to school but not really settled in anything yet. Martha was about to become a doctor herself, she had her life pseudo figured out. It sort of seems strange for her to leave it all behind, now that I think about it. So saying that the connection with you wasn't there, I totally get it. And not cheesy at all. Well, maybe a little bit, but a good kind of cheese. :D ( ... )

I don't think the Doctor was really "ready" to have another new companion. By the time Donna came along, he was ready to accept Rose's departure (as I was. Um. To a certain extent. I am nothing if not one giant Rose fangirl). I think Martha definitely helped him towards that point, but their relationship was just missing something. And yeah, it was so (so) much easier for Martha to walk away from the Doctor at the end. Rose would have stayed with him til the end and Donna didn't want to leave either.

And yeah, all of Martha's later appearances work a lot better, I think. She's off being badass and not angsting about the Doctor at all.

And haha, you could probably skip S1 if you just find out the basic plot points relevant to S2 (I can totally spoil you if you want). S2 gets so weirdly better. I really couldn't believe it. I was questioning whether or not I was actually watching the right show or not.

I never really stopped to consider whether he was ready or not... I guess they tried to make him ready, what with his "ONE TRIP" "okay... ONE MORE BUT THAT'S IT" "well... maybe ONE MORE. BUT ONLY ONE." and then yeah. But I think he was more just really damn lonely, and hurting, and wasn't used to being hurting and lonely and so he needed someone to ramble to and adventure with. Except that then they made Martha be all in-love with him and it made it unnecessarily complicated.

Exactly. They're better apart.

ahaha if you're into telling me the Torchwood s1 deets, I am all ears! I really dread sitting down and watching... i dunno, like 8 more hours of overdramatic pushy angst just to get to the good stuff. That said, if there's one or two eps worth watching, plz let me know that too! XD! And only if it's no bother ... heh!

For me, I don't think any companion would've lived up to my expectations. I don't know if I'm looking forward to the next season, since Moffat's taking over, no? And I did not like River Song at all. But we'll see, since I said the exact same thing about Donna and look how that turned out, haha.

Um, my randomly remembered things about S1 (that I ... think are important? Haha):
- Jack/Ianto are in a relationship, as of the "They Keep Killing Suzie" episode.
- Stopwatches are ... not really important, just an amusing thing that pops up a few more times in S2, haha.
- In "Greeks Bearing Gifts", Tosh has a relationship with a woman, who later turns out to be an alien, who later turns out to be evil. She dies. Keep note of that- In "Out of Time", three people come out of the rift from the past and are stuck. Owen falls in love with one woman (Diane), who later attempts to fly back into her own time. Owen spends much time angsting over this. Oh, and then in the next episode, he walks into a cage with a weevil (because blah blah some Fight ( ... )
