I'm not the only one but I have been thinking about it for the past few months more and more, but I am looking to get into rifle shooting. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (what was a government program with the US Army, but is now a Congressionally chartered privately funded non-profit organization is an organization that organizes competitions and has the exclusive ability to sell surplus M1 Garands or M1 Carbines. The only problem is of course money. Firearms aren't cheap. So I'm looking to get into a simple firearm for adult beginners and learn to shoot with that. I'm not looking to get a hand gun because of all the paper work for a hand gun permit in New York, unlike Alaska, Arizona and Vermont. Vermont was the only state to never require a hand gun permit.
