Is KSU in accordance to the ADA laws? Apparently not! (Vent)

Try this on for a size.

We just had a fire alarm go off right after class had ended at White Hall. The problem? My professor is hard of hearing, my interpreter thought it was an elevator alarm along with other classmates because elevator alarms always go off in this particular building. I checked the hallways and stairwell for any visual aids and found nothing. So we thought it was just the elevator ...

Until the fire chief came in the classroom and rudely told us to get out. (We were discussing a project that was due next week.) Wait a minute ... We didn't get a chance to explain our POV and he didn't even THINK about seeing MY interpreter with ME. "Oh that's right, there's a deaf student here." He was very brusque and I can understand why but jeez, guy - give me a break. I can not possibly know it was INDEED the fire alarm when there was nothing to indicate that - not even ONE person came in here and go, "Hey, it's a fire alarm." - NOTHING whatsoever.

Also a lot of deaf students and faculty uses this building for classes so there is NO excuse whatsoever for this.

So I went to the students with disabilities service and filed a complaint and so did my interpreter. There were NO visual cues whatsoever on what it was. I thought it was law that all buildings, especially for an University to be equipped with everything for people with disabilities? Apparently not THIS building.

Oh that burns me. (And I don't mean it as a pun.)

And this also concerns me because there is over 50 deaf students at KSU and its branches as far as I know and about ten or more deaf faculty members working for KSU as well. What an impression on me as a student there. Really.
