Maybe I don't want to turn my brain off.

So, Transformers 2 is out, and believe me when I say it's every bit as ridiculous and stupid as the first one, if not more so.  At the very least, there's 150% more leg humping humor, and twice as many robot testicles as the first one.  Anyway, there's a certain mindset that seems to pop up when ever a movie like this is being discussed.  People start using excuses like "Just turn your brain off and enjoy it" or "What did you expect?  It's based on a toy/cartoon/comic book/video game/etc./etc."  Call me naive, but I'm just not buying it.  People who say things like that act as if this is the best possible movie we could expect, as if the film makers shouldn't have to try as hard as they usually do just because the subject matter is unrealistic.

I refuse to accept mediocrity just because some douchebag in hollywood thinks transforming robots from outer space are somehow beneath him, and he doesn't have to bring his A game to the table.  If every writer or director thought like this, we wouldn't have movies like Star Wars, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Terminator, Robocop, Aliens, Jurassic Park... I could go on all day, but you get the point.  If you're a film maker and you're not going to give every film you make all of the respect and attention you can muster, than you shouldn't sign on for the damn thing in the first place.

If Christopher Nolan can treat a man in a bat suit fighting a psychotic clown with respect and turn it in to one of the highest grossing movies of all time, then there's no reason why something like Transformers can't be a much better movie than what we're getting.  I'm not asking for Citizen Kane or Casablanca, but in the right hands, an action/comedy about the Transformers could easily be as good as Ghostbusters or Men in Black... or at least their sub-par sequels.
