I'm getting ready to plan out my computer for college. I've got a grand total of $2000 to spend, but don't really know entirely what I'm doing. Therefore, if anybody is willing to help (this is mostly directed to Branden and Cody, but I'll take input from anybody. lol) I'd be more than willing to accept it.

Help me please! I have no idea what I'm

Do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc? (stuff not in the case in other words)
For 2Gs you can build one motherfucker of a comp if it's just towards the tower, slightly less so if you need the other stuff too.

He came out to about $1300 and that's with a bit of money tossed in there and I doubt a mouse and keyboard would cost much, so I was left with a bit to spare if anything needs changing. The RAM Branden suggested has a capacity of 1GB though, to answer the question. Like I said, I don't know what's going on. lol. Is that bad if it's not 2GB?

Run it by me?
Not for like my Seal of Approval™, but just out of curiosity.

Personally, I'd go with an Asus nForce4 mobo (Asus has never steered me wrong and I've been hearing some stuff about the MSIs lately) and I've personally never been a fan of VIA boards after owning a couple.
I'd toss in a proper sound card too with some of that left over money, unless you did put one in and just didn't list it.
In my personal experience, Kingston isn't worth a damn, but maybe I just got some bad ram.

So, YOU GOT IT ALL WRONG. j/k, just a couple things I'd have done differently, otherwise it's pretty much the same comp I'd build.

The $200+ card will, depending on what kind it is, be either colossaly shitty and overpriced or a work of fucking art.
The card I got for my new comp is a Chaintech AV710 (or something) that uses the Via Envy24 chip and goes for about $20. It's the little brother to some of the best sounding chips on the market, like the m-audio Revolution and other studio quality cards.
I thought my stuff sounded good on my Audigy, but I was sorely mistaken. However, it really does take quality speakers to hear a difference in the sound quality. Regardless of speaker quality though I'd still go for Chaintech simply for the price. I really doubt I'll ever buy a Soundblaster card ever again.

As for taking a load off the rest of the system, it does make a difference. Unnoticable sometimes, sometimes pretty noticable, but there is a difference. I spose it's up to Jorde whether he wants to spend a little extra on potential (emphasis on potential, some people just won't be able to tell a difference, different ears, etc) improvements.

Well, I think I'll go with Branden on the rest of the system and my parents and brother looked over everythingtoday. However, my brother also noticed the abscence of a sound card and I think I should take your opinion on that. However, I did some more caluculating after some stuff was changed and I don't know if I could aim for a $200+ one. However, a $150 or less one might be good

You could spent just over $100 and get one of the best, the aforementioned m-audio Revolution.

Oh. Well I wouldn't want you to hate me... After all, even Connie claims that she doesn't so you would be the first and only to hate me. lol.

But for a good sound card, that's just a chance I'm going to have to take
