I've been thinking about that flier campaign I'm getting prepped for the Port Chicago book. More than 300 addresses. It's direct mail and you don't see that much in publishing. Certainly not fiction. Port Chicago Isn't There Anymore is nonfiction and the addresses in the mail campaign are specifically targeted. I mean--specifically. Almost all attended the 2007 town reunion, where I got their names, and most of the rest are people who have either bought one or both of the two Port Chi booklets or have otherwise helped me with research for this book. Not a name on that list isn't directly interested in the town. And get this--I know most of the people on the list personally. From Way Back. Some I've know for 50 years. Seriously. How's that for targeted? I expect good sales from the effort which I'll launch in a couple weeks.
