The clock struck thirteen and, on the wall, read "Preparing to escalate war in Afghanistan is Peace"

Ha ha! What did Obama do to deserve the Nobel Prize, again?

Hope doesn't count. If I graded my students on "hope" or potential to change the world I'd have a bunch of A+ students that couldn't add two fractions together. Potential <> actualization ( Read more... )

yeah... the nobel prize was really a bit much.

but i do think he's doing a better job as president than any number of people would (except for dennis kucinich, who is my goddamn hero) when you consider the giant pile of crap he inherited.

I do think Obama's a better president than Bush.

I think your carefully qualified statement is HI-larious. in equal ambiguity, i would say i agree with you.

My point wasn't to say that Obama's a bad president. I just seriously can't fathom why a wartime president, who was in the process of escalating a war, would win the Nobel Prize. I don't like Obama as a president but I don't like politicians in general.

If I were on the Nobel Peace Prize committee I would demand that every person, in their speech, must explain why they deserve it more than Stanislav Petrov.

Oh yeah, I get and agree with you on that completely. I just think that your reply (not your initial post) was amusingly ambiguous, because "better than Bush" doesn't say much.

I'm not a slavish fan of him myself, but I always am drawn to ask more closely when someone implies that he's "horrible." (Which you didn't say, it just seemed possible that your opinion might extend to something like that, which is why I asked.) I get curious about these things because I wonder sometimes what people expect of someone who is still, at baseline, a politician in general.

Perhaps I'm just a skeptic. Things like this just make me go "eh, so much for having faith in the point of the Nobel Peace Prize."
