Update on teh house...

I was amazed!!!

Just last Sunday, I drove down to my subdivision to see that they had FINALLY finished the slab on my house. The rep from Adams Homes was right, it would take them around six weeks just to do that.

So, imagine my surprise when I drove up with my friends on Friday, and:

(DUN-DUN-DUUUUUUUUNNNN...)

The ENTIRE FRAME AND ROOF were finished. There were some discrepancies with regard to the floorplan I was given, but nothing show-stopping. In fact, one of the discrepancies I don't mind at all! In the lower-level floorplan, there is a large double-window across from the ONLY contiguous wall space in the living room. (The floorplan is open, with entrance from the front door going through the living room and a straight throwback to the dining room.) So, I told the builder that I DIDN'T want a double window right there. Instead, split the double window into single windows (same cost to the builder) and put one to the left so it shines down a side hall, and another next to a six-foot opening that leads into the kitchen / breakfast nook. This throws plenty of light around the house, and also gives me lots of good wall space for putting a big entertainment center.

Well, upon viewing it on Friday, I noticed that they split the window as I asked, giving me a nice bit of wall space in the living room, but they put in DOUBLE WINDOWS for each one! I basically got about $300-600 of free windows!

This puts the tally of downstairs windows at: four large double windows, a single window in the breakfast nook, one window over the sink, one window set into the back door, and a decorative oval-glass inset on the front door. Needless to say, the downstairs of my house is going to be BRIGHT...

ADDENDUM (6-25-07): Well, it looks like they caught the discrepancy about the large windows in the living room and have fixed it. DRAT!
