Am I the only one who thinks this is fucked up?

The school gunman who killed several classmates, and then himself, was on anti-depressants.

Here are a few excerpts

"Friend: Minn. Gunman Took Antidepressants"

"BEMIDJI, Minn. - The teenager who went on a shooting rampage at his high school was put on the antidepressant Prozac after a suicide scare last summer, a longtime friend says."...

"'He was a lot more quiet. I wouldn't say any better,' Grant said."...

"In October, the Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) ordered that all antidepressants carry "black box" warnings of an increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children. Prozac is the only antidepressant found to be safe and effective for children."...

"daily dosage ranges from 10 to 60 milligrams, based on body size and composition and individual treatment plans. The severity of a child's depression is not a factor in determining dosage"...

Okay, now is it just me? Or does it seem kind of counter-productive to cure depression, by making the children want to kill themselves?

I saw an ad for an anti-depressant the other day, and the only thing they said was good about it was the 3 or 4 one sentence testimonials such as, "I can face the world again" and so on. I swear to you, that the ENTIRE rest of the ad was disclaimers about the possible side effects! The side effects were severe... Possible seizures and so on. They even said that it might increase thoughts of suicide!

I think it's time psychologists took a good look at how they are treating depression. I don't think doctors try to find out what is causing problems any more. It's FAR easier to just prescribe some pill, and be done with it. The doctors don't actually have to listen to their patients if they do that.

Just goes to show you how little people actually LISTEN in this society.
