Finally, we are going home to survey the damages and and clean up a little bit. FEMA is a poof, and no one has really seemed interested in helping us at all except for an animal clinic. We had a kitten on the verge of dying yesterday, and we could easily tell it was in alot of pain, so we called around to find a vet who would put it to sleep for not much money, since we don't have much...We we told to bring it to the Oubre Animal Clinic in Texarkana and they would see what they could do for us. One look at the kitten and they understood our problem and agreed to put it to sleep. I filled out the paperwork, which wans't very detailed; just enough to get it done. I went to the room the kitten was in and Crystal was talking to one of the nurses about problems that kittens have that could cause this, and then we said goodbye and they took the kitten to the back. They even offered to bury it themselves, which isn't something most vets do. One of the nurses asked us to stay for a few minutes, so I opened my wallet to see how much money I had on me, and wondered if it would be enough for the bill. Instead of a bill, the nurse comes in there with a huge bag of dry catfood and a grocery bag of cans of wet food. I was kind of in shock. She told us to take it and that it was donated for such a reason. After thanking her immensly we walked outside and started heading for the truck. A nurse came outside and stopped us and gave us $50 to help us get home. We told her the food was very generous, but that we couldn't accept the money. Surely someone else would need it more, but she would not let us give it back. When we got to my aunt's, I told the story to my dad and he emailed it to his entire company(all the branches, don't remember how many there are) and he told the story on the air(he part-times as a dj for kool 95.1 in Texarkana). So there are actually generous ppl out there, you just have to look for them. If you are a Rita evacuee and stuck at home bored out of your mind, you can probably get discounts on movies, bowling, pool, etc as some of my friends are doing. Just thought I'd share,
