A Fun Weekend Approaches!

Nov 03, 2010 00:16

So there's finally a little bit of good news on the horizon! Namely, I'm getting this weekend off by request, since my girlfriend is coming down to visit me. I'm reasonably sure I touched upon this in past entries so if you don't know, look it up turkies. It also gives me the time to dick around and enjoy myself, along with the promising experiment of living in constant close quarters with a significant other. Don't you just love science? More importantly, I just found out the new "remake" of GoldenEye was released today. Biiiig fuckin' skitz-out! Much as I'm struggling against the minotaur of poverty, I think I may just have to purchase this game in the very near future. In fact lately Mikey and I have been indulging a bit more in the gaming scene. I myself just finally got my Halo: Reach controllers, one of which to be sold off to help offset my poor ass. I haven't yet been given the opportunity to nab a 360, but I'm sure the time will come. Right now my biggest concerns are getting through this college semester and hoping I'll be told about my raise on Thursday. Since it's been a few weeks since last update, I suppose there should be a little recap action.

So merit meetings finally went out at work, and of course I scored high marks. That combined with my length of employment WITHOUT a raise will hopefully yield positive results. Apparently we're supposed to find out about all that nonsense once they get some super-secret-coded spreadsheet. All I need to know is how much I'm gettin', and what that will do to my mindset about working at OfficeMax as a result. As for the job itself, it's been a bit of a constant fuckload of stress, considering we've been doing Holiday set-up...not to mention all the merchandising alterings that have been going on. I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who does shit around there as far as making things look pretty and keeping them up to date. Such is the torturous life of me though. Oh well; they're on their own this weekend.

School continues to drive me to the edge, but this past weekend was a pretty interesting experience, seeing as how I had to go to a Buddhist service as part of one of my reports/projects. The entirety of it was pretty cool and a little bit fun. I found it amusing how Joanna (my girlfriend for those of you who need a generous hand up into the present day) was afraid they were gonna convert me into some kinda cultist. I kindly had to respond "No, baby...if they try to make me join Myspace, get an iPod, and download horrible music, THEN they're cultists." I really did enjoy it though, and I was able to bang out my 2+ page report in about an hour (because I'm that damn good). Now all I need to do is turn it in on Thursday, but that's after I get through my second Econ exam tomorrow. There's some great news.

In the martial arts section of this newspaper, we've got a tournament in about two weeks. I'm still not sure if I'm gonna compete or not (because of money constraints I'm thinking not), but it's still gonna be a fun little experiment...especially because if I don't go to compete, I'll likely help out at the school that morning and then go to offer moral support. As if that were enough, the banquet is in about three weeks; obviously I'm getting hyped as hell for that. I'm still not sure what I'm making, but you can bet your ass it's still along the lines of something that plugs into the wall and keeps its damn self warm and prepared while I help set up. I also got to help in the last test, which was damn cool (as always). I think the next step for me is gonna be getting to be an assistant instructor. Depending on when my brown belt test comes up, one may happen before the other, but we'll see. Tests from here on out, for me, will be a little bit different and most likely a hell of a lot more challenging. I'm still determined to meet them these challenges though.

So what else is there to tell? I finished watching the entirety of Alan Wake. Looks like a bomb ass game if you already have a 360, but I personally loved the storyline. Total mindfuck, and in the best possible way. Other than this, Halloween was a work day, and I'm really just getting geared up for the soon-to-be holiday season. In fact I'll be going to REI's Garage Sale this weekend before I pick Joanna up from the airport. Maybe I'll find some more boss ass merchandise like I did last year. Even if not, it'll likely give me a chance to break out my 3-layer Columbia jacket. Goddamn cold weather is upon us yet again! Which reminds me, I saw this awesome Fox hoodie at Dillard's I'm thinking of tacking onto my Xmas list. Oh that's right...get your asses shoppin' for me now!

Beyond that, I've just been trying to sell my laptop, in which I've only received one response that seems almost 100% like a scam attempt at trying to get into my bank account. Sorry, but that shit isn't happenin' with me. Still I kinda wanna sell this off so I can better upgrade/consolidate my current tech, as well as use whatever's left over to offset some of my outstanding payments (like LASIK). Getting my smaller responsibilities paid down would be most good indeed, but it's never an easy road is it? I just keep plugging along in the slim chance that someday soon I'll maybe catch a break and finally be able to break even so I can then concentrate on getting ahead. Depressing as that sounds, I'm in a reasonably semi-good state right now. I just know once school lets out I'll be feeling quite a bit better. I just have a few more monolithic headaches left until I'm free. What I'll do after that is a mystery, but it's something we'll look at when the time comes.

Anyway, that's all the boringness you get from me for now. I still haven't gotten the chance to upload any of my promised pics. Lately I'm lucky if I have enough time to buckle my goddamn pants with school, work, and other random responsibilities. Nevertheless, I haven't forgotten and will try to hook y'all up in the next update if I can. That being said, I'm gonna go look up some stuff on the new GoldenEye while WATCHING GoldenEye and also mentally bitching ineffectively at how our state's elections went (enter the dark age of right wing fucktards). Until next time, I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween, and that everyone's gettin' geared up for Thanksgiving!

"Hope they enjoy the crap o' lantern!" - a quote from Robot Chicken, and also the center focus of what would've been an awesome Halloween prank.
