A Time of Good Tidings

I figured it was an appropriate time to take a break from my nihilistic-esque view on how life's been treating me, even though I could've about strangled my Algebra teacher in the passing events and topics of last week. All has been quite well, especially when you consider I had my banquet just the other day! That was of course, an amazing and well-enjoyed event, but I'm gonna hold off the recollection of that simply because it happened at the end of the week, and there were so many other magical things that happened. I - of course - say that with a dash of sarcasm, as I guess I can't TOTALLY get away from my obscure look at my mortal existence. I think the only thing that HASN'T happened which should normally around this time of year is the temperature change. It STILL gets to like 70-80 degrees! What the hell, nature!? Anyway...moving on.

So Algebra has kinda been my existence's bane (not shocking), and will prove to be a challenge, as my second exam is Wednesday. I think I've got a pretty good grasp on everything, but we won't really know until I'm literally put to the test. As for Western Civ, I've gotten through Frankenstein and have to now do the review questions. It wasn't exactly a bad book; I rather enjoyed it towards the end, as well as found myself relating a bit towards the monster itself. In actuality, I gotta bang those questions out tomorrow so that I can have 'em ready for Thursday. We're also getting into the whole "midterm mindset" since it's week 8. Halfway to finished for this damnedable term! I really feel bad for the girl who sits next to me, as she was sick (and thus, absent) for the past two classes. It seems she picked up on it pretty quickly, but having to catch up on all this complicated shit, I wouldn't necessarily wish on many folks. Either way, exam 2 on Wednesday, some midterm prep for W. Civ, and I'm just gonna wind up using my free time towards catching up on Heroes, since I seem to keep missing that.

I was pretty damn grateful to have off of work on Saturday, but that's because I requested it off in order to go to my super awesome banquet. It'd be damn nice if I didn't have to work ANY weekends, but I think that'd require a bit of a job change. Nevertheless, I'll be having next Saturday off as well so that Mikey and I can do the "Discovering Scuba" thing. I'm still not sure how is lazy ass is gonna react to it, but I hope it'll spark him wanting to get the hell away from his computer. Getting back to my point at hand, Sunday proved to hold obvious tasks, such as setting up the Windows 7 display. I have to say that I didn't at all feel any disdain for that, as it meant it was my sole duty - my crusade - to exorcise that hellish evil that is Windows Vista from our shelves (hopefully for eternity). While I'm on that note though, Microsoft needs to get off their asses and give me my goddamn copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. My laptop is suffering every day with this Vista plague; it must be banished!

So onto the moment some of you were probably waiting for: the banquet! I'm surprised I got to sleep the night before (and consequently, up the next morning when sleep finally happened). I wound up still being slightly late to help set up, but things went a fair amount better for me this year. In the event I forgot to mention, I brought my mini-cheesesteaks (and pretty much smoked out the entire apartment in their preparatory process). One of my friend's dishes was about frickin' vanished by the time we got up there (he wasn't too stoked about that), but all in all it was an awesome spread of home-made entrees, deserts, and sides. Not to mention the fact that this year, brotha' man was pimpin'! Granted, I wasn't all decked out in a suit or anything, but in some new jeans, my stylish black button-down, and some dress shoes, I was a lot more prideful of my appearance this year around.

Beyond that, I got some compliments on my pimpin' cologne, and was witness to several awards - several of which I was used to from last year - but a few that were new to me. The most notable were the degree belt promotions, of which three happened. I'd never seen such a thing before, and it only served to heighten the memory of this year's banquet. More important still, the chief instructor was presented with his special gift (which he hasn't ACTUALLY gotten yet). He seemed pretty happy about that from where I was sitting. As with last year, probably the worst part of the banquet was the fact that it had to eventually end, but I suppose all things bound by the shackles of time that spark into beginning, must smolder to finality. Nevertheless, it's all the more reason to look forward to next year's! I think next year though, I'm either gonna invest in a crock pot like some of the other folks planned so that I can keep my dish warm, or I'm gonna go the polar opposite and swing for something that can be served either at room temperature or lower. Eh, it's whatever; I've got a whole year to plan, right?!

Anyway, that's pretty much it from me as far as the universal three forces of my life are concerned. I wound up heading to stores I wouldn't normally shop at in order to find myself some new threads; I'll spare the mention of them simply because...well, I just don't feel like going into it. I'm a man who shops for what fits first and who it's made by second anyway. In addition to that, while the Eagles fucking failed themselves up for yet another week, the Phillies just made a BEAUTIFUL comeback to beat the Dodgers and take a 3-1 lead in the NLCS. Seeing as how I'm finally starting to get back into baseball, I'm very much hoping for a back-to-back World Series championship. I can feel the purchase of the appropriate shirt coming quite soon!

Well, with all that having been passed down to you folks, I think I'm gonna wrap it up for this week. I've got a little more Dissidia to play, and some bad TV to bitch at, most assuredly. Plus, as I'd mentioned last time, Daylight Spendings is undoubtedly just around the corner. If I could bludgeon it to death with a nail bat, I would...but since I can't, let's just get ourselves ready for Halloween! Until next week, when I'll no doubt tell you all about how the diving introductory went, y'all behave yourselves and pick out a good Halloween costume!
