TANCREDO: This is the problem. We should not be encouraging that. They are living in the United States of America. This country - my grandparents, when they came here, they would not let my parents speak Italian. They only let them speak English.

And they, themselves, although they were older, in some cases, when they came - some of them were - they learned it because they wanted to become Americans. That was their primary goal. It was - there was no divided loyalties. And, I'm telling you, when we are becoming - and when we are, unfortunately, becoming a bilingual nation, you have to also wonder about loyalties.

To whom are you loyal? Why will you not learn English? And why would we want to encourage that kind of phenomenon by doing something like a Spanish-language debate for the office of president of the United States?

-----

That's Tom Tancredo (a representative from Colorado) explaining why he's boycotting an upcoming GOP debate that's being catered to a Spanish speaking audience. Well, Tom, times change. That period of Ellis Island introduction was over 100 years ago. However, Mexicans are the flavor of the era so far, following the Africans, Germans, Chinese, Irish, Italians, and every other group who's seen a "(Insert ethnicity here) Need Not Apply" sign in some store window in their lifetime.

So in this case, Tom, our loyalties must lie with England. We do in fact speak English. Though we did kinda rebel on their asses a couple centuries ago, they kinda gave us a loan/head start on this part of the globe. So we should really be saving the queen and not Congress/the President's approval ratings. But I know you'll say that you're actually Italian, Irish, German, or some combination of European ancestry. Well, Tom, you speak English and you're proud of it. So bow to fucking Parliament, its House of Commons and House of Lords and the Prince Charles' wandering dick.

English, motherfucker, do you speak it?
