tequiladawn, I tried to make this a leave a comment to, "*facepalm*... But this became so much more.
I, 2nd that facepalm, even tho I'm a believer. It's kinda the same logic that christians use to vilify the world. Which, he didnt teach us to do that.
But yeah, take this example. My mom believes that if abortion was abolished in 1973, America would have more jobs, because those 'children' would create more jobs. Which would put more money in the economy. Social Security wouldnt be failing, because of the under 40 crowd would be able to sustain all the baby boomers/busters that are now on social security. I ask "Who would raise these kids"? You wouldnt help the single parents, you would vilify them, until they also turned to the "dark side" (church dogma). Really, "create" jobs? Not if the state has to teach them. I could go on, but it's making my head hurt.
Here is what I really dont understand. (a note to the Christians who believe):
Why, if you believe that Christ is coming back one day to take you away to a perfect world, that he will create after this one is destroyed? Why do you insist the world be perfect now, when Christ tells you in his word, that it wont be? Why must you demand that the world live to your standards. When Christ says that you cannot live up to his standards. That his blood is what will save you. It's not our mission to wipe out all evil from this world. Is it because you dont want Christ to return yet? Do you think you can stop his coming? Do you believe you will recieve an extra prize for making the world a safer place for Christ to reign? That Christ will say, "Thank you, because of you, this world will not face destruction. All because of you"? Yes we are to speak up for those without a voice. But to vilify those, that dont hold the same values just makes the words of Christ null and void? Arent we to be the salt of the earth? I thought that meant that we are to make the world pleasant tasting. Meaning that this life, will have trouble and strife. Yet, we are to bring the light and joy into those that unbelieve. So that they may see what's different about us. Not making demands of how the world should be. That's not what Christ asked us to do.
Yes, this is America, the foundings of our nation has some Christian influences. Yet, there are many other influences too. All of them human, the people back then are as flawed like we are today. We as Christians are not responsible for nations, we as Christians are called only to be responsible for ourselves and our families, and our testomony to the unbeliever. Not the country. Who cares, if you really believe Christ is coming back, so what, if America falls because of homosexuality? If that is your sole purpose for not allowing Homosexuals to marry or any-other "sin" in everyday life. Re-read the story once more. Lot, his wife and family is all that God asked of Lot to be responsible for, not his country, not his nation, not his land. The sad thing is, what did Lot lose in the process? His wife. I've not heard one, sermon in my 30+ years of life in church about understanding Lot's wife point of view. That makes me wonder what was her concern that she turned around and was turned into a pillar of sulfar? Could it be, she turned around because she thought, "my country has fallen, I can no longer take pride in my land any longer, I need to save my land". Could that be the real lesson? Is Christ saying to us, "Christian, if you trust me, let me take care of America, It is "my will" either way, fall or prosper, not yours".
I am not discussing the biblical meaning of Homosexuality. Because of dogma, my voice will not be heard.
Do you think Christ will be happy, knowing how you "saved" America from falling into "sin" by stopping Homosexuality or anything else through dictatorship of the unbeliever. Yet not one soul was "saved" by outlawing the act. When you know, that God knows, that the act wasnt stopped at all.
*facepalm*
