Tonight I learned about two laws i didn't know existed:
1) you have to be 21 to buy someone under 17 a ticket to an R-rated movie which we found out after there were cops at woodinville cinemas because of all the fucking 15 year olds sneaking into Saw II, and the guy wouldn't let Elena buy two tickets without seeing ID from both of us.
2) apparently you have to be 18 to get hookah too...which i think has to do with the tobacco, because on the website of this place in seattle that sells them, you have to be 18 to buy the shisha, but the pipes are for sale to anyone. We found this out after going to the Zaina's on 3rd and ordering hookah, only to have the man behind the counter laugh at us and ask how old we were. What the fuck.
I wanted to see North Country, and since I couldn't do that, i wanted some fucking hookah. I didn't get either. why? because of institutionalized ageism. Tell me, how many immature, emotionally malleable kids under 17 want to see a movie about female mine workers being sexually victimized by their male superiors and then standing up to it in a heroic fight against sexism? How many irresponsible, reckless kids want to sit down with a single friend in a near-empty restaurant and have a quiet evening over a nice rose-flavored hookah with a cup of turkish coffee? I'm super frustrated. Moral of the story?
Go see North Country with mommy, buy my own fucking hookah.
end.
