The Hobbit Hall Report: Moving into the weekend on a high, of nailing a major back office project in three days, we found the pizza crust to be superior and for the first time in recorded pie history we ate the whole thing in equal portions. That was one good pie.
Saturday brought the conservatory lighting project, with the materials I ordered for this shop in Auckland. After a morning of scavenging power-sources and performing near microscopic soldering and the satisfaction of wire-wrap shrinking, I have installed an indirect LED lighting system that is perfect to be a coming home in the dark light, a mood light for a romantic dinner and a late night party effects light for dancing in the near dark.
I have a slightly more complex project for next weekend of setting LED stair lights on the entrance, something Janno has been asking for years now. I finally found the right ones with a dusk to dawn sensor driving 5 LEDS hitting every second stair with good down spill light. Running costs should be in the range of $2.00 or less a year for over night lights.
With a major low barreling down on the island, we both felt our internal barometers triggering headaches, Janno yesterday in pain and me in to a bad mood, while today she is fine and I'm hyper medicated and barely getting by.
That didn't stop me from putting together a wonderful looking Gumbo; my first, after some wide reading. I used a commercial additive Gumbo mix to flesh out what I was doing. I buy these things, usually once to see what it adds that I might not know about. I this case it was a roux. Heck, I can do roux and sans MSG too. So, next time, I get it. It's not too far off the consistency of my mamma's "stew." My head is a mess so I used what we have, not shopping for okra (that I love) and fine powder which I would not fine(d) but never the less, this is a good thing, with turkey and the holy trinity, chicken, blackened and spiced right for Gumbo and beef, done nice and hot. Each element is bringing a Gumbo dimension to the party.
So, you'll read this far you gets a cooking tip. Need to get your garlic cloves out? At cooking time, microwave for one minute (700-1000W) and remove with tongs. Each clove will just pop out skinless and Bob's your uncle. Kenno's Cooking tip 48.
Bobbilynne Koepke, I wish I could get you to taste some for your opinion. I like to think you would devour at least two bowls. Janno's making the rice tonight.
