So Romney stepped down

Mitt Romney quit the race today, which was disappointing to me as I was going for him. I thought he would have made a very good candidate and a good president. Although I have hopes that McCain can unify the party, perhaps using Romney as his running mate.

I just hope that in the end we can win the White House. I'm not too worried about McCain, not like some people are. I think he is a strong candidate and can make a difference. He is more moderate than most of the Republicans I know but thats not a bad thing. His ideas on Immigration aren't bad, I like his stance on defense and I think it would be good to get someone who has reached across the isle multiple times to get things done.

I think there is too much focus on this whole "Reagan Conservative" thing. Aside from the bible thumpers no one I know is that conservative, and they should not be able to hold this country hostage. I also do not think we should become as socialist as Europe and Canada. Whatever the government touches turns to shit and I would not want that to happen with our health care system. Welfare is not the answer. It never has been. Welfare was meant to support until people can get back on their feet, it has been scammed and taken advantage of for too long by too many people. I can only think health care will follow and the fraud and waste would be insanely huge.

We need a more moderate approach. Nothing will please everyone, but massive overhauls need to take place. Health care is flawed, but not broken. It needs to be fixed but not regulated, not governmentally controlled. The environment needs to be looked at closely, we need to reduce our need on oil and start taking a good look at REAL solutions to the problem. Ethanol is promising but not the way we do it. Corn is a terrible way and using it is driving up our food costs by nearly triple what they were as farmers and energy companies fight over it as the farmers are STILL paid by the government not to grow it. Stupid and wasteful. Nuclear power is a viable alternative to coal and gas plants we need to work on that for our infrastructure. Solar energy is now viable for personal houses, the government should pay a portion of it for people who choose to get them onto their houses. It would save a lot of money in the end.

I could go on and on but I don't have time. I'm off to lunch.
