I've been utterly distracted by my effing cold the fics posted over at the Alex Rider exchange comm
spy_fest for the last weeks. There have been some spectacularly good fics posted, so, rec time! All anonymous at the moment. There will be more in the next few days.
Death's Head (Alex, Paul Drevin, PG-13, gen)
Summary: Alex doesn't like it when his friends are threatened. But how good a friend is Alex?
This is one awesome romp of a fic, outdoing any of Horowitz's short stories, and just plain fun and excitement. If you're unfamiliar with the series, this will introduce you to its spirit in a decent-sized hysterical canonical nutshell. The inside jokes alone are gold :).
Tom and Alex (Tom, Alex, gen, PG-13)
Summary: Tom finds out first hand why the truth hurts.
Oooh, the title and summary sound so blandly innocent, and I'm not even all that fond of Tom, but omg, it's *beautiful* and achingly painful and bittersweet and just... good!
The Pursuit of Valor (Alex, K-Unit, R, gen) [link to Part 2 for header info - read Part 1 first!]
Summary: A K-Unit guardianship fic. Snake thinks Alex needs a psychotherapist. Alex thinks Alan Blunt needs a help group for compulsive liars who like torturing poor souls. Wolf’s motorcycle also makes an appearance. So do bank robbers.
A brilliant psychological fic of Alex Rider at the breaking point with trauma and guilt, with K-Unit reluctantly trying to pick up the pieces (one of the best K-Unit characterisations I've ever read).
Thlipsis (Yassen/Alex, NC-17) [link to Part 2 for header info - read Part 1 first!]
Summary: Kidnapped by Yassen and raised by Scorpia, Alex Rider is the world's youngest assassin. When a mission takes an unexpected turn, MI6 sends Ian Rider to bring him home. Alex would rather die than work for the people who he thinks killed his father, but the choice is about to be taken out of Alex's hands. It's kill or be killed, and the time to choose has run out. AU.
Yep, it's my gift, but I'd be hopping excited about it even if it was not. Alex stolen away by Yassen as a baby and raised as a Scorpia assassin. Ruthless like hell, and Yassen's lover to boot. And then he's sent to supervise a certain Stormbreaker project, and the past comes back to bite him no less than his canon self... Yay plot! Yay mindfuck and intrigue! Yay Y/A, too ;).
Quietly into the Night (Yassen/Alex, NC-17) [link to Part 2 for header info - read Part 1 first!]
Summary: On a mission gone wrong, Alex is thrown into a world in which he is prey in a sea of predators and solely dependent upon a certain Russian assassin.
Alex stumbles into Yassen on a mission to escort a criminal to freedom, and is abducted for a road trip throughout Europe. There's a scary struggle of wills and power and attraction, with a very dark underlying theme. Brilliantly written, and psychological development is just spectacular. Read the warnings, though!
