I *hate* grading! I don't mind writing a page of comments to explain why this was a great/decent/sucky essay, but throwing in a grade sucks to no end. Especially if it's below B. Because the comments would really do the trick on their own, and I'm always wibbling over subjectivity and 'is this paper really better/worse than that paper', especially since our department once did that experiment giving the same paper to ten people and getting back every grade from A to failed! Shouldn't keep agonising over this, but I always do!
