PTE goodness

The last two days have been pretty much work. Morning shifts at the Pantages (getting so sick of Grease) followed by evening shifts at Prairie Theatre Exchange! Yesterday got to be awesome and be a Tech for a series of monologues that prelude FemFest next year. The day before since it was my first time being a technican there I was given a set of keys and instructions to come in and 'play'. It's a nice feeling to have a theatre booked to yourself for a couple hours. So I used the time to acquaint myself with the space, and build a set of submasters and possible cues for the next day, just so I could be ready for anything. It turned out to be a good idea, since one of the cues I'd setup was exactly what she needed for the show, I just had to adjust a couple shutters on lamps and it was done. So, yay, went great, even better considering that it was one of my profs whose show it was! Such a small world.

Today was something different entirely, and it has a visual componant! Today was my first non school related set strike. Or at the very least, it was my first paid set strike. The play Honour closed today and within minutes of the audience leaving, we were already attacking the set with drills and crowbars. Most of it was pretty standard fare, I loved being in the new setting, but there was one little thing that made this play a little special. The set consisted of two sculptures on a revolve. Well.. today came time for them to be torn apart and thrown out. It's too bad really, they were kinda neat looking - not usually my thing, I'm more of a fan of realism - and it's always sad to see something wasted. But, none the less, here are pictures of it's destruction.

In addition... it starts... I took home a riser, it measures two feet by seven feet by 8". The ribs on it were in a good place to be used as a book case, and they were just going to throw it out anyway! The white circle is a cross section slice that I took from the sculpture of the set!

That is all in Kennah's theatre blog for today. Tune in next week for my first hang and focus at the PTE as a PAID crew member! The entertaining part of that shift... My Lighting Design Professor is the designer for the show.
