It’s the first of September already. Sheesh!
Anyway, I’ve got to write a letter to Inkas Films tomorrow detailing the contacts Bella Fe Films has made so far. We’ve gotten the script to John Malkovich’s people for the role of George, to Jamie-Lynn Sigler for Anna, to Cillian Murphy for Alain, and no response from Ludivine Sangier for Marie. However, because I failed to communicate to my entertainment lawyer that I’d written Sangier off, she held getting Alisha Cuthbert’s people the script, so it’s not going to make their “weekend read” which will delay follow up.
In the meantime, I’ve got to nudge Inkas into either outright buying the script, or at least optioning it before I risk Bella Fe’s reputation on much more.
Thanks to a friend at Overture Productions, their development department has agreed to look at the package depending on who I attach to the package, but I’m shooting in the dark as far as talent and who they would find a good attachment and who not. I’m pretty sure Scott Hicks’s interest would be a hefty plus, as well as Malkovich, but I’m not sure that Sigler, despite her Sopranos fame might be a big enough name. I’m a little more comfortable with Cuthbert who seems to be primed for a breakout despite the box-office failure of Captivity.
I got my notice from Austin Film Festival; I’m a second-rounder again this year, but despite the lack of semifinal success or beyond, I’m attending the fest anyway because I hear it’s a great networking venue.
I’ve done some work on the last act of Tilt A Whirl that lays the groundwork for converting the “parlor room reveal” with a cinematic reveal during a seduction scene. Still a few kinks to work out around midpoint, but I’m developing the treatment and will try to finish it for Tuesday’s writer’s group. Then I think the adaptation should be done in a few weeks - it’ll have to be if I want it in time for Austin.
In the meantime, a friend of H.’s who knows the Braff brothers from childhood has said she’ll approach Zack Braff for the role of Danny Boyle when I’m ready with the script. Hey, I’ll take a connection from anywhere I can get it!
