Well, I m all settled and moved in....ijust got the internet today. Is lonely living here all by myself but I started work today so that should take up most of my time.

Today was good-everyone is really nice and it seems like it will be a fun place to work.  When I walked in there was a sign taped to the door that said 'welcome Kendra!'  I am ( Read more... )

I remember when I was living in Illinois for that very short time that they did no recycling deposit there either, and I'm not positive, but I don't think there's one here in Alberta at all. In fact, I don't think non-commercial places (like homes and residences and stuff) get to recycle plastics at all unless they pay to have them picked up. Alberta doesn't believe plastics recycling is profitable enough. (Because y'know, recycling is all about profit and not about saving the planet or anything...)

Things were strange when I moved here too. Especially bank cards, and the money, and pricing, and food in general. I still get weirded out that I can see the canadian rockies from most points in the city. I also found it lonely at first living alone, but now I kind of like it, and I don't think I ever want to bother with roommates ever again, lol.

That's cool about the maps. Like, they're going to be used. I dunno, it's just neat that you're out in the real world producing things that are being used. I can't wait to be done with school and out in the real world making food for people that actually appreciate it, rather than students who just eat in the cafeteria because it's there and it's cheap.

Good luck with everything & have fun!

Oh! And there is different words for things here. A beanie is called a touque, everyone calls lip-balm lip-chap, and on the rare occasion that racism occurs, it's against native americans (called aboriginals here, actually, or just "natives") moreso than any other ethnicity. Also, being Caucasian in Calgary is the ethnic minority. It's just weird how different things can be when you move away from where you've always been. :)

Well, Ohio isnt that much different from michigan (esp. toledo--its only like 15 minutes from Michigan!) Not like a whole other country! Even though Canada is right by St. Clair I cant imagine how different it must be all the way over in Calgary. Now, Tokyo on the other hand.....haha.

Oh yeah...but I am so glad to be done working with food!! Although I think working on a college campus or for students is not too bad because in all honesty they tend to be more polite. Its their parents that always seem to have a problem! At least thats been my experience.
