I also tend to assign real locations to places described in in stories. When I was reading Harry Potter, I had to assemble Hogwarts from parts of the high school I went to, then change the walls to stone, because I couldn't follow the story otherwise.
Even in my writing, I assembled Fae Springs school from parts of my high school. In the case of Hogwarts and Fae Springs both, I had to stack things up to make multiple levels. For Fae Springs, I also moved the library's location to one wall rather than the center, moved the cafeteria to where the office was, and stretched it out.
I should probably draw a map for the inside of the main Fae Springs building, the way I did for Salem School. Not sure why I haven't yet, given only one of the books takes place at Salem School.
Anyway yeah, I'd have to see it drawn out. I get so far in your description and the whole mental image falls apart into random scribbles and brain static.
