I am now reviewing my reading list on goodbooks while answering phone calls. There is a large lump of books that end up there that I have not gotten around to reading.
I fear a few of my goodbook entries are vanity entries. I imagine it to be something like a 'vanity shelf' where your fellow bibliophiles try to impress you with the books they may or may not have read. Long eye level rows of Greek classics I think is a sign of this sort of ego driven behavior as much as prominent placement of Finnegans Wake or Gravity’s Rainbow.
Of course I might just be bitter because I never finished Finnegans Wake and barely started Gravity’s rainbow. For me these books either occupy a low half hidden shelf of ‘things I meant to read someday but forgot’ or are in a ‘catacomb of shame’ consisting of books I expect I will never quite get to or that I am sorry I read.
