I don't know what prompted this poem. Maybe working too much. Maybe conflicting feelings of hope and despair when considering different aspects of my life. Only after starting it did I realize it bears a slight resemblence to "A Place in the Sun" by Stevie Wonder. So he might get some credit for that. The opening line was partially inspired by
