Shape of: an eagle! Oh wait, wrong show.kendo_taishoJune 8 2009, 07:55:57 UTC
Heiji looked like a mess. His hair was unbrushed and strands stuck to his forehead in thin clumps. His face was pale, and his eyes were wide, and dull. even his clothes looked like they were depressed; his entire posture made it seem as if gravity was just too much for him today.
Granted, what she didn't know was that half of it was an act. Kudo Shinichi supposedly just died and Heiji was supposed to be upset. So he'd hung around in his room, lying on his bed and sleeping in his clothes for the past few days.
But...truth was, he had every right to be down. It didn't matter that Conan was alive and well, though that was a good thing for sure. To Heiji, the death was real. He could never see Shinichi again. Could never work with that frightening intelligence on an even level when they were both normal and Kudo didn't have to worry about sounding like a kid and making sure the adults got all the credit. So, while half of his appearance was an act, the other half was definitely real. He was mourning his second best friend.
It certainly didn't help that the last month or so was fuzzy in his memory and he had the strangest feeling that he almost lost all of his friends.
"Not at all." He muttered, moving aside to let her in.
Kazuha almost felt her heart break seeing Heiji like this. She knew he'd be hit hard, but she'd hoped...maybe being around so much death he could take it a bit better. She should have known better.
After all, none of those people were people he cared so much about.
She stepped inside and without waiting, wrapped her arms around him. She just wanted to do something, anything that might help him a bit. "I'm sorry," she said quietly.
He didn't stop to think how it was odd to think how Kazuha's hug was the warmest feeling he'd ever known, just wrapped his own arms around her and clung like his life depended on it. His eyes scrunched tight, he inhaled sharply, and took the support gratefully, feeling better now that someone so familiar was there.
Heiji's exhale was shaky, but with it went his tension. "Me too."
Kazuha didn't move away, gently rubbing Heiji's back, hoping it might soothe him. Even if she did enjoy contact like this with Heiji, she ignored that part of her mind, focused only on trying to do...something, anything to make him feel a bit better.
"I'm here for you. Whatever you need," Kazuha promised, mentally apologizing to Ran. Now that she was here, she couldn't ignore Heiji.
He slowly inhaled and exhaled a few more times before responding, pulling away and back to a regular distance. Which, granted, wasn't much, considering they were best friends and have been attached at the hip since they were young.
He ran a hand through his hair, and seemed to be trying to bring himself together. "Need, uh...somethin' t' drink? Or eat? We got some leftovers I can heat up for ya."
"How about I make us some tea? I'm not really hungry," Kazuha said. And being best friends since they were little allowed her to know her way around Heiji's house. And she didn't want him in a kitchen if he was this depressed. Not that he'd do anything, but in that state, there were a lot of things she could hit on accident that could hurt.
Kazuha got more worried at hearing that. "Have you been eating anything?" She asked.
She glanced at the door, closing it since they hadn't gotten the chance to during the hug. "I'm always here for you, Heiji. A blazing inferno wouldn't keep me away if you need me."
Kazuha looked at Heiji for a moment before she grinned. "Lucky for the blazing inferno it's smart," she said. A laugh was a step in the right direction.
She did make a mental note to get Heiji to eat something sooner or later today.
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Or worried," Kazuha said, smiling in relief to hear Heiji laugh. Laughing was definitely a good step. Even if they would have to talk. Letting Heiji bottle it up wouldn't be good, but at least being a little happy before hand shouldn't make it as rough.
"You could stop scorned women in their tracks," he deadpanned. When was the last time he'd seen her smile? The thought made his expression fall, and he looked down at his hands.
He bit his lip and swallowed hard, trying to figure out where he should start before finally latching onto one of the biggest problems. "I should have been up there." He wasn't seeing their hands anymore, though he closed his fingers around hers. He was remembering what he could of the heist.

The imagery, however, made him laugh, a small sound, but it was still a laugh. "'Zuha, a blazing inferno would be afraid t' stand in yer way."

He was thankful for the moment, cause he knew they still had a lot to talk about, and he wasn't sure yet if he even wanted to anymore.
