First Ride of the Year!

So 2008 is upon us, well it's nearly a month over and I've finally managed to get out on the bike and do a bit of riding! This years first ride was off the road, and through the woods of the forests of Halton. Just north of Milton, there are some nice trails and fire access roads, and even covered in snow they make an awesome but tough ride.At -1 degrees we were quite warm, I was over dressed by at least one layer and sweating heavily.

Traction was at a minimum, but we found ways to get moving, and by the end we were motoring as best we could with our out of shape lungs, and our hearts pumping excessively fast, both begging for us to take frequent breaks.

Whenever I am in this section of forest I always seem to loose my direction. It was rather reassuring to pass two hikers who were way more lost than myself. I was unsure of where I was going, but they were 7kms away from where they wanted to be, and going in the wrong direction. I hooked them up with some locals who promised to guide back to their car.

Post ride meal consisted of McFlurrys, the prefect thing for a winter bike ride.

All in all it was an excellent time, looking forward to hitting the trails again sometime soon!
