Question (potentially for fic)

Yeah, still farting around with the story I started in September and it's going nowhere slowly. Boo. (keiliss, your plot bunny is struggling!!)

But as an intellectual exercise, I'd like you guys to weigh in on this question: Imagine Glorfindel and Ecthelion are having a heated discussion about choice vs destiny.. It's after the Dagor Bragollach, they've returned to Gondolin, Ecthelion is questionining the wisdom of having followed Turgon to Gondolin in the first place, they're both aware that Gondolin's days are numbered since they revealed themselves to the enemy... so who do you think would defend the idea that fate can be altered through action and who would be resigned to the idea that fate is immutable?

I'm currently working with a rather disillusioned Ecthelion... Headcannon for this one follows Sentiment of Steel, though I'm not sure if it's technically a sequel to that story or not, so he's recently watched his father die defending Fingolfin and has also only recently allowed himself to set aside the oath he swore his father to continue the family name because he loves Glorfindel before all others, so my impulse is that Ecthelion would feel at this point that Fate is unassailable, while Glorfindel would support the idea that they can act to change their fate in either large or small ways... but what do you guys think?

I'd love to hear arguments in either direction.
