Wow. So needed to see this on a Monday.

Aaaaaaaand here we go again.

Summary:

1) Review of Thirteenth Child at Tor.com
2) Person expresses discomfort that revisionist history of America erased Native presence entirely.
3)Bujold fails all over. My favorite is the lovely implication that us brown skins only know about SF/Fantasy because of the internets. The fact that I have better uses for my money than attending a Con to prove my existence to Bujold means people who look like me never read sci-fi/fantasy.*

Excuse me while I remove the links for Tor.com from my journal.

I'm not mad. Don't think I'm angry. This is more an okay, one less thing to waste my time on feeling. I was thinking that even though some writers are personally distasteful, their works could still hold something of value.

...Um, yeah about that?

Pass.

Until I can channel my inner Vulcan, I'd better avoid their stuff. Things like this show just one part of a writer's personality, so to judge them by opinions they express on one topic may be premature, but when this is the first I've seen/heard of them, it makes it that much more difficult to make allowances for their human failings.

No scrap that. It's not what was said or did. It's how someone reacts to being told "hey, what you said/did is hurtful for some people because of X, Y and Z."

That's where the fail comes in.

This is also a reminder to me to respect other people's experiences. One day I may be the one being called out for doing something ignorant. I hope I can respond with a grace and honesty than so many of the Racefail writers seem to lack.

*We'll ignore that I don't live in the States as a factor, because if I wanted to, I'd find a way to attend.

wtf theatre
