Chapter 15
Janet walked out to the porch and feeling the night chill coming in thought about how much she missed the south. She shivered. Daniel took off his cover shirt and put it around her shoulders. She beamed at him. “You sure you aren’t from the south Daniel?”
Daniel shrugged. “No, why?”
“Such a gentleman now what’s up? You made Jack crazy by not talking to him. Even if you avoid him now you’ll have to tell him later. What happened in the kitchen?”
“Damn it!” Daniel yelled and hung his head over the railing propping himself up on either arm.
“Daniel?” Janet asked with concern. “What is it?”
“That fucking asshole is going to hurt Sam.” Daniel growled.
“What did he say?” Janet asked with greater worry. Daniel only hit big brother mode when Sam was about to be hurt or was hurting.
“That she wants kids and he has his career and…” Daniel sighed then kicked the post holding up the porch roof.
“God poor Sam.” Janet whispered. She rubbed Daniel’s back. “Go on tell me the rest.”
“He made it clear that if Jack and I don’t work out he wants to be in the running.” Daniel felt ill.
“That goddamned two-timing snake in the grass son of bitch!” Janet growled.
Daniel snickered. “I knew I liked your command of language.”
Janet shook her head. “What did you say?”
“That I wasn’t interested, that I only had eyes for one person who was not in the room and I never planned on being available again. Oh man Janet what the hell do I tell Sam? What do I say to Jack? He’ll take Paul apart limb from limb.”
“That’s one the Colonel’s redeeming features. “ Janet sighed. “Let me handle Sam. What are girlfriends for? Thanks for telling me Daniel. I don’t envy you telling Jack. You might want to wait and see how Sam handles it first.”
“I don’t know. He doesn’t like to be kept in the dark.” Daniel shrugged. “If it was the other way around I’d want to know.”
“Okay I’ll send him out, but can I make a suggestion?” Janet said handing Daniel his shirt back.
“Please,” Daniel replied.
“Give him a big kiss, make his knees weak then tell him how much he means to you first.” Janet said then left. She walked out back to find Jack shooting a paper target into shreds. She waited until he stopped and tapped him on the shoulder. “Daniel wants to talk to you.” He was about to put the gun down but she stopped him. “Oh no I definitely need a turn.” Jack saw her blow the next target to shreds right in the bull’s eye. “Damn doc next time we need another team member I’m taking you on the team.”
“I do not think so,” Teal’c smirked putting his arm around her. Jack nodded then went to find Daniel.
It didn’t take him long, seems over the years he had developed Danny-radar. Jack found him on the porch cursing in different languages. He didn’t have to know what was being said the vehemence of it gave it away. Jack wrapped his arms around his archeologist. “Danny?”
He barely got the word out before Daniel’s tongue was in his mouth. Daniel was like a tiger unleashed, hands everywhere at once. Jack tried not to panic remembering this was Daniel and not Billy. He opened his eyes at one point just to reassure himself and then the kiss turned passionate, needy and territorial. “I love you Jack. God knows I love you so much. I never want to let you go. Just you and me Jack forever I don’t ever want anything to come between us.” Daniel whispered in his ear when he wasn’t kissing him.
“Danny boy I love you too. I’m not planning on a future without you in it. What’s got you so wound up angel? What did Paul say to you?” Jack whispered back between kisses.
“That if it doesn’t work out between us he wants a chance at me. But that’s never going to happen right? I don’t want him. Jack I love you. Please don’t leave me.” Jack saw red. He wanted nothing more then to kill Paul with his bare hands. But Daniel needed reassurances now more than Paul needed to be killed. He could do that later.
Maggie walked out looking smug. “Nothing like a little death threat to get the old blood pumping eh?” Then she saw the state Daniel was in. “Ah Danny, don’t worry he’ll never get past my Jack. Now come on you two, time for a walk.” She hooked her arms between the two of them and walked off the porch beaming up at the two.
“Now Jack wanted me to explain about hand fasting,” Maggie winked at Daniel whose mouth had dropped open. “Surprised you did he?” She giggled. “That’s my lad. Well now, for starters I know you’ve both had your share of bad marriages. Both, in my opinion for the same reason, they were based on romantic love. That dries up quickly. Now what you two have has lasted years in friendship alone before turning to love. That is the real McCoy. You are both still friends, and are committed to each other. You’re honest with each other, trust each other and do have some common interests at least. Although I think you’re going to have to work on it. My only concern is your religious philosophies.” She stopped and looked at Jack pointedly. “Son what do you believe?”
Jack rubbed his neck. “Hell, ma’ I don’t know if I believe in your stuff. But I do believe there is something out there. Mind you I don’t call on it much, figure I have to make it on my own. But there are times I begged it,” he looked at Daniel,” and it came through for me, hell for us.” He smiled.
“I’d have to agree with Jack. Most religions are run in too structured a fashion for me, but yeah there is something out there that when I need to I’ve asked. It doesn’t always answer but sometimes it does.” The two men smiled at each other in the fading light.
“So what would a ceremony like this mean to you Jack?” Maggie asked.
Jack took the steps over to Daniel and took his hands. Then looked him in the eyes. “I want you to know and for our friends to know what you mean to me Danny. Never do I want to see doubt in your eyes. I want to give you the most solid relationship I can given the circumstances and to let you know I’m in for the duration.” Tears brimmed in Jacks’ eyes as he nodded to Daniel.
“I never want you to think some idiot can ever come between us Jack. I love you and respect you, admire you and trust you with my life. To be with you for the rest of my days would be a dream come true. I want others to see what you are in my book, and my book alone.” Daniel sniffed and the two men embraced.
Maggie sniffed. “Then if you want it I’ll be happy to perform it, just know it’s a magical rite and that it has pagan roots. And you’ll have to come up with a time limit.”
“No time limits,” Jack said cupping Daniels face in his hand. Maggie smiled. “Then may I suggest repeating what you said in front of a few friends? Make your own ceremony and say it in front of the power you both believe to be out there to witness it?”
“Perfect,” Daniel replied looking deeply into Jack’s eyes. “Just like in Eden.”
“Ma?” Jack asked not taking his eyes off of Daniel.
“Yes Jack?”
“Thanks, but go away you don’t want to see this part.” Maggie giggled and headed back to the house. She turned back when she reached the porch to see the two lovers kissing in the darkness. “You’re wrong Jack, nothing could make me happier.”
