So, Radio Free Albemuth will be coming out soon, it's based on the Phillip K Dick novel of the same name. Up until this point Phillip K Dick inspired movies have been a far sight from the novels or short stories that inspired then (with the exception of A Scanner Darkly). Now in their own right many were good movies, Blade Runner (based on Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep) is one of the most classic films of Sci-Fi history. However, the book had little to do with the movie, it extended a few minor points, skipped several major ones and all in all had little to do with the initial novel. Total Recall claimed to be based on We'll Remember It For You Wholesale, but I couldn't really find any links between the book and the movie and don't even get me started on Paycheck.
Now, normally this wouldn't be anything that would really get to me. But, Radio Free Albemuth involves Dick's iconic satellite VALIS and while it's not an actual part of the VALIS trilogy, it does have a lot to do with the man's life and personal philosophy, to the point he is even a pivotal character. I'm only hoping that A Scanner Darkly set the trend of Dick movies to come, because after Radio Free Albemuth (again, I cannot stress how badly I hope this doesn't suck), work starts on Flow My Tears the Policeman Said, which next to Man In the High Castle was one of the most important Sci-Fi novels possibly ever.
