Update: Busy and happy

Apr 02, 2011 23:56

I've been ultra-busy, which is bad in that it's interfered with blogging and online networking, and which is good in that the recent frenzy has been for pretty outstanding reasons.

My first official Dungeons & Dragons article, "Faith and Heresy," is now online as the cover story for Dragon #387. I'll have more to say in the next post, but a) I'm psyched, and b) there's another article in the works.

The Foreshadows anthology is inching closer to cyber-reality. Here's the gorgeous cover from Michael Komarck. Did I mention I have a short story in the anthology? Have I mentioned that former Ravenloft artist Talon Dunning has freakin' done interior illustrations for my story and others? NO? Well, dammit, I am now! And once my brain recovers slightly, it'll be time to tackle that dark fantasy novel I've been mulling since November. From a creative standpoint, I feel pumped.

In the past two months, I've played the new Gamma World (which rocks!) and D&D 4E, I've run D&D 4E as well as Ravenloft, and I finally got my feet wet (with the blood of sinners, of course) in the cooooooool Solomon Kane RPG by Pinnacle, using the Savage Worlds system. Very fast, very easy system -- and I got to use my Tarot cards, too! That's aside from my near-daily joyous activity in an online 4E Eberron game as a near-mad warlock who may become romantically involved with a sexy deranged necromancer and/or may become her zombie slave. On top of that, my 4-year-old daughter likes to play with my D&D miniatures. Things are good on the gaming front.

And speaking of my daughter, much of this satisfaction wouldn't be possible without the joy that I get from talking to and playing with her every day or without the love and support that I get from my wife, who quietly agrees to find things to do on those nights when her frazzled husband absolutely needs to write something involving heretical priests, obsidian crocodiles, or cursed druids. One afternoon a few weeks back, the three of us made our first visit as a family to New York's Museum of Natural History. As someone born in New York City (OK, yes, I lived most of my life in the Limbo Dimension of Staten Island), I made MANY trips there as a kid, walking wide-eyed and giddy through the dinosaur exhibits. Well, for my wife and me, it was now our turn to share that feeling with our daughter (see the short video), who is turning into a wonderful, enthusiastic lover of all things geek, and I couldn't be happier. Good times all around.
