So I joined IMU's Infinity Milers. We had a training session every Wednesday. I joined the training session this Wednesday, and it was terribly tiring. We ran so much but all the committees are too enthusiastic, until we felt shy to stop. (Though we almost couldn't move anymore.)
It was actually a pre-training for today's Klang Gate Climbing, to let us prepare ourselves physically as well as mentally.
Too bad Terri couldn't make it. We were supposed to go totgether, as it is meaningful to me. I spent my last day of my 19th year there. But Terri was too tired, as well as Xin Ying. I thought that I would miss it, yet I just made the decision at a sudden, 11-ish at night, I took cab to IMU. I had faith in myself that I won't regret.
Reached Vista B at around 12am mid-night. IMU just finished the IMU CUP's Cheer-leading competition. Well, I missed it. And I almost couldn't find Ickes's place, instead of B2, I went up to B1. LOL!
Pei Jin was already there, chatting with Yen Haw. And she spent her night at Ying Xin's room, whilst I kacau-ed Ickes's and Yen Haw's room. Who knows Ickes came back late, some more played Nerts with Chee Leong, Matthew they all. Pei Jin was awakened by them. Hah hah.... Me and Pei Jin ended up sleeping for less than 2 hours.
4.30am. We gathered in front of IMU and departed to Klang Gate at around Taman Melawati. Reached there around 5-ish. Warmed up, stretched, and we were divided into 7 groups.
Group 3
Group Name: Christmas "3"
Group leader: Justin
Sweeper: Ickes
Other group members: Mark, Johnson, Pei Jin, Sim, Sin Chin, Safa, Bella, Chia Sin, Me.
Description:
The hill, which is approximately 1000 metres, is a quartz/limestone combination formation. Climbers enter the hiking trail via Kampung Klang Gates, 50 metres form the gates of the Klang Gates Dam, at the back of Taman Melawati for a quick 3-4 hours climb. The Gombak Forest Reserve and Klang Gates Dam are beside the hill. The peak offers spectacular view of the dam.
It has been the tradition of Infinity Milers to induct their newest members by climbing Klang Gate where it serves not only as a form of team building between the committee members, senior members and new members but also serves to further elucidate the philosophy of the club and to explain what drives us as a running club as well as a slight detour from our regular running activities.
It was still very dark, we followed one after another closely, and some of them with torch-lights. (Seriously not easy to climb)
There are 7 peaks on Klang Gate. We need to reach the first peak asap so that not to miss sun-rise.
We were told why this mountain is called "Klang Gate". It is actually the barrier dividing the civilised part and uncivilised part of Klang. That's why it's called "Klang Gate" !! ^_^
The slopes are really steep, and lotsa rocky hilly sites. This is the first time I climbed a rocky mountain. We need to figure out ourselves which step to take in order to have a more appropriate step forward, and we need whole body stamina, to hold ourselves on those huge rocks. There are some sites where we need to climb down 90 degree vertically. Some with rope, some without. Really adventurous.
Furthermore, we built up teamwork. And one of their main objective is "To leave no one behind". We developed it among ourselves, helping and encouraging each other.
Apart from that, there is a tradition of Infinity Milers. We would sing IM's song on one of the peak, one group teaching another group, in a very gloomy tone. (somehow we sang excitedly) And after that, we would throw a piece of stone down the hill, whilst shouting the slogan
"To Infinity And Beyond!!!!"
Yes, our eyes are the BEST camera in the world. ^^
Once you are determined, you will definitely reach your destination without any hesitation.
This is the song...
"We're IMU climbers
Climbing for our school
Once in our life
Five years of our time
Have you ever wonder
Why do we climb
Because we love our school
We want it to be good to be good..."
My best present on the last day of 19.
More pictures to come, they are still with my friends.
