So it was a good weekend. Even if Freaknight XI was canceled. More on that later, but the Enforcer part on Saturday was, as expected, stellar. I'm continually amazed (though I don't know why it still surprises me) at how effective we are at partying in large numbers. 86 people in a single house and while it felt full it didn't feel annoyingly crowded. There was even seating available more times than not. An incredible success for our hosts Jedi and Lori.
Now that's how it's supposed to be done. Friday was an example of how NOT to do it. Freaknight XI was the eleventh annual Halloween rave put on by USC Events. USC is known for putting on a number of shows a year, most of them large and with big headliners. It should NOT feel like amateur night. But that's exactly what it felt like this time around. Details were a little slow up until mid-September. The list of artists lacked any truly "huge" names (although Infected Mushroom is certainly respectable). And then the venue issues. Insider rumor points to arguments with Pier 30 over how the bar area was going to be run, but it doesn't really matter. As a member of the Enforcers, I know that one does NOT argue with your venue. Especially within a week of the event. Let alone the day before during setup. So there's some serious disappointment in the lack of professionalism shown there. When you tack onto that the "It's still on! We're not finished!" scramble day-of-event to find a new venue the whole thing took on an air of disaster-recovery similar to the Katrina disaster. Not on that scale, but that same "cover the rear!" mentality that disgusted people with the American government. Poor form USC, you need to step it up for the next event.
Regardless, that was Friday. Saturday was the party, which was epic. Sunday was good. Just damn good. More on that eventually, but for now I have to be quiet.
