Goings On

Nick and I are still hunting for a house. We have written a few offers, but it is slow going. Unfortunately, ninety-five percent of the homes for sale are owned by banks. The banks are looking for investors with all cash to take the homes off of their hands. That just isn't us.

Work. . . .  it has improved. About four months ago, my boss got promoted. To replace her, the upper management decided to promote someone who had been with the company six months. I have been here five and a half years. She already constantly came to me with questions. With the change, I was essentially training my new micro-managing boss. To summarize, I detested going to work each day. This changed about three weeks ago. After four months of hell, the upper management realized that the situation wasn't working and "promoted" my new boss to another position and department. To replace her, they assigned an existing manager to oversee our team. I have worked with this person before and enjoyed the situation. I would have accepted the postion if I was offered, but they aren't going to promote someone in graduate school. At least I don't dread coming to work now.

Although my work situation has improved I am still looking for another job. I have applied for a couple jobs, but I am at the beginning of the process. In particular I applied for an historian job with California State Parks.

I don't have classes this summer but I do still have school. I have been spending the summer working on my thesis project. I am researching and designing a museum exhibit about Sacramento diners, dives and drive-ins. Hopefully, I will finish my research before classes start up again in September.

A proud moment: Nick and I play poker with friends and family about twice a month. We only play a five or ten dollar buy in. No one is losing really big money. When we play, I typically only win a dollar, lose all of my money, or lose a portion of my money. When we played this weekend, I not only kept my ten dollars but won an additional eight dollars. I never win that much! I was quite proud of myself.
